Alex Pereira and his team are making it clear: they're calling the shots on his next fight! After reclaiming the light heavyweight title, the focus is on what's next for the dominant 'Poatan'. But here's where it gets interesting...
In October 2025, Pereira delivered a stunning knockout victory over Magomed Ankalaev, avenging a previous loss and solidifying his place in the history books. This win made him only the third fighter to hold the 205-pound title twice, joining legends Randy Couture and Jon Jones.
With Pereira recovering from a foot injury, the UFC is reportedly considering a title eliminator between Carlos Ulberg and Jiri Prochazka. Other potential opponents include the newly crowned middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev, who has expressed interest in moving up a weight class, and even a potential move to heavyweight for Pereira.
But here's where it gets controversial... Pereira and his team have their sights set on a heavyweight clash with Jon Jones. Ed Soares, Pereira's manager, believes this fight would cement his athlete's legacy. He stated that while a third belt would be special, a fight against Jones is what they truly want.
However, when Chimaev's name was brought up as a potential opponent, Soares dismissed the idea, questioning the logic behind it. He pointed out that Chimaev had just won the middleweight title and hadn't even defended it yet.
With heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall recovering from eye injury, an interim title fight has been suggested. Soares isn't keen on that idea either, suggesting instead that Alexander Volkov, who beat Ciryl Gane in the first fight, should get the opportunity.
Beyond Pereira, Soares also manages other fighters, including Patricio Freire and Alexandre Pantoja. Freire is in advanced negotiations to return to the Octagon in April. Pantoja is expected to have a rematch with Joshua Van this summer.
