ChatGPT Atlas, the AI-powered browser, is getting a stylish makeover! OpenAI is introducing vertical tabs, inspired by the Arc browser, allowing users to access tabs within a sleek left-hand sidebar. This feature provides a unique browsing experience, offering a more organized and efficient way to manage tabs. With the ability to resize and reorder the sidebar, users can customize their browsing environment to suit their preferences. However, it's worth noting that the new sidebar is not as comprehensive as Arc's, and the address bar remains at the top of the screen. To try out this new tab style, simply right-click inside the address bar, hover over 'Tab Style', and select 'Vertical Tabs'.
But that's not all! ChatGPT Atlas also allows users to set Google as their default search engine, streamlining the search process. When you don't use the browser's search function, it presents around 10 relevant sources found across the web, with a direct link to Google Search results in the top-right corner. This integration makes searching for information a seamless experience.
Other exciting updates include the ability to select and drag multiple tabs by holding down Command or Shift and clicking. Users can also import their extensions from existing browsers when downloading Atlas, although this feature is currently only available for new users. Additionally, there's an improved downloads interface and support for iCloud keychain passkeys, enhancing the overall user experience.
ChatGPT Atlas, available on macOS, joins the ranks of AI-enabled browsing experiences, including Perplexity's Comet and Google's Gemini extension in Chrome. Whether you're entering a URL or typing a question, ChatGPT Atlas leverages ChatGPT to provide answers.
