In a significant shift for public transport users in Singapore, the EZ-Link app will officially cease operations on January 8, 2026. This change comes as a result of its features being fully merged into the SimplyGo app, which aims to streamline transportation services across the city.
On December 23, users received an email from SimplyGo detailing the necessary steps for those transitioning from the EZ-Link app. To continue using their transportation services seamlessly, EZ-Link app users must download the SimplyGo app, log in using their existing EZ-Link account credentials, and complete a one-time account synchronization process.
This synchronization is crucial as it will enable the migration of users’ account profiles and linked cards to the SimplyGo platform. It’s important to note that for those who choose not to sync their accounts, their EZ-Link accounts will remain inactive rather than being deleted. They can activate their accounts again by completing the sync when they are ready.
The transition process has already begun, with the EZ-Link app being gradually phased out since December 10. Notably, all functionalities previously found in the EZ-Link app have been incorporated into SimplyGo starting in September 2024. This integration is designed to unify all transit-related services, providing users with a single platform for managing their travel needs.
With the SimplyGo app, users can effortlessly top up their travel cards and make payments both locally and internationally using Mastercard and SGQR through an EZ-Link wallet. This move reflects Singapore's ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience in public transport, but it also raises questions about the effectiveness and accessibility of such integrations. Are users truly ready for this shift, or could this create complications for those accustomed to the old system? Share your thoughts below!
