Ever wondered which countries are truly 'responsible' on a global scale? Former President Ram Nath Kovind recently unveiled the groundbreaking Responsible Nations Index (RNI) in New Delhi, and the results are eye-opening! This isn't your typical ranking based on economic might or military strength; instead, it dives deep into how nations treat their own citizens, the global community, and the environment.
The RNI, a first-of-its-kind initiative, evaluates 154 countries, using data up to 2023 from esteemed international bodies like the World Bank and the United Nations. It's a comprehensive assessment, looking at internal responsibility, external (global) responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
So, who takes the crown? Singapore claims the top spot, followed by Switzerland, Denmark, and Cyprus. And where does India stand? India secures the 16th position, just above France.
But here's where it gets controversial... Powerful nations like the United States find themselves at 66th place, even below Libya! Japan comes in at 38th. This stark contrast highlights the RNI's focus on responsibility over sheer power.
For those curious about regional standings, Pakistan is ranked 90th, while Afghanistan is at 145th.
The RNI is a collaborative effort, developed jointly by the World Intellectual Foundation, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
During the launch, Ram Nath Kovind emphasized that the index defines a responsible nation by its behavior towards its citizens. He highlighted the three crucial pillars of assessment: internal responsibility, environmental accountability, and responsibility towards other nations.
