Power Outage Disrupts Malad Area, With Some Customers Getting Back on the Grid
A significant power outage has affected thousands of residents in and around Malad, but there's a glimmer of hope: some customers are getting their power back. According to Jona Whitesides, a spokesman for Rocky Mountain Power, 500 out of the 3,100 customers initially impacted have had their electricity restored.
The cause of the outage? An equipment failure at the substation, as confirmed by Whitesides. A witness reported a fire at the substation to EastIdahoNews.com, adding a layer of urgency to the situation. The fire, however, is not the primary concern; it's the equipment failure that has led to the power disruption.
The outage began around 2:15 p.m. and is expected to persist into the early morning hours, according to a news release from Rocky Mountain Power. Whitesides assured that the remaining customers will have their power restored as soon as possible, once permanent repairs are made. Despite the initial estimates, the release now mentions that the outage could last until the early morning hours, but crews are working tirelessly to get things back on track.
