Scunthorpe Fraudster Stole £9 Million for Luxury Life: The Investing4You Scam Exposed (2026)

In a shocking revelation, a con artist has swindled a staggering £9million from the pockets of 600 unsuspecting Britons, all to fuel his lavish lifestyle. But here's the twist: this fraudster, Declan Nowell, masterminded a complex scheme that left victims financially and emotionally devastated.

Nowell, a 31-.year-old from Scunthorpe, created a fake investment company, Investing4You, to lure in innocent people. He promised lucrative returns on foreign currency trading, but it was all a web of deceit. And this is where it gets controversial: the fraudster used the stolen money to indulge in extravagant purchases, including a McLaren sports car, a house, and designer clothes.

Humberside Police's Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation in 2021 after numerous reports of customers being unable to access their investment funds. The probe revealed Nowell's Ponzi scheme, where he used new investors' money to pay returns to earlier investors.

Detective Constable Paul Twidale shed light on the case, stating, "Nowell deceived over 600 individuals, claiming his company could generate impressive profits. However, we discovered that he only deposited a minuscule portion of the £9million, and even that resulted in losses."

The investigation spanned four years, meticulously building a case against Nowell. The fraudster's company lacked proper licensing, and he deceived customers by claiming pending accreditation.

Nowell initially faced 14 fraud charges but pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by abuse of position. He admitted to operating without a license and falsely claiming to have made millions through online trading.

The remaining charges remain on file, and Nowell awaits sentencing on March 13. Detective Constable Twidale expressed hope that the outcome would provide some relief to the numerous victims.

This case highlights the devastating impact of financial fraud, leaving victims not only financially strained but also psychologically scarred. It serves as a stark reminder to be vigilant and cautious when it comes to investment opportunities. What do you think? Are there any red flags you would look out for to avoid falling victim to such schemes?
